Programme Objectives

  • Build foundational capability in using Microsoft Copilot Studio for day-to-day operational workflows and process support.
  • Create knowledge-grounded agents that provide SOP, policy, procedure, and operational guidance.
  • Configure Agent Flows for request handling, routing, notifications, approvals, exception management, and recurring operational activities.
  • Connect agents with approved enterprise applications and real-time operational data.
  • Build governed Request → Validate → Route → Act → Escalate → Monitor workflows while maintaining human accountability.

TOC Modules

Concepts
  • Understanding Copilot Studio as a low-code environment for building AI-powered agents and workflows
  • Understanding agents, knowledge, tools, connectors, workflows, and generative orchestration
  • Identifying operational opportunities across requests, information access, coordination, and repetitive processes
Practical activities
  • Exploring a representative operations agent and its available capabilities
  • Mapping Operational Need → Agent Capability → Workflow → Business Outcome

Scenarios

Operational Request to Automated Resolution

Employee / Business Request → Copilot Studio Agent → Information Validation → Request Classification → Agent Flow → Enterprise System Action → Status Notification → Closure

Participants build an agent-assisted operational process that captures a request, validates required information, routes it through a predictable workflow, and communicates the final status.

Operational Exception to Controlled Human Decision

Process Exception → Agent Detection / Interpretation → Relevant SOP & System Information → Human-in-the-Loop Review → Approved Action → System Update → Outcome Tracking

Participants configure an exception-management workflow in which Copilot Studio gathers the relevant context and coordinates the process while an authorised person retains responsibility for the final high-impact decision.

## Current Capability Reference

Microsoft currently positions Copilot Studio as a **graphical, low-code environment for building and managing AI-powered agents and workflows**, connecting them with organisational data and systems.

Current **Agent Flows** are deterministic and can run manually, from agents, from events, or on schedules. They support AI actions, branching and looping controls, data operations, connectors, and **human-in-the-loop** activities, making them suitable for repeatable operational processes.

Copilot Studio agents can use enterprise **knowledge sources** and Copilot connectors to ground responses in organisational information while respecting underlying source permissions. Tools and connectors can additionally retrieve real-time data, update systems, invoke APIs, and run automated workflows.

For enterprise deployment, current Copilot Studio governance includes **Power Platform data policies, publishing controls, security monitoring, Microsoft Entra-based controls, and centralised agent governance capabilities**, which should be incorporated into production operations-agent design.
